We had a very successful demonstration against poisoning here in Ioannina on Saturday evening. It was well attended by university students in response to poisoning of animals at the university.
Today as if to say 'Have as many demonstrations as you want, we are still going to poison animals" three more dogs were poisoned at the University of Ioannina.
No doubt there will be others. These are the bodies we have found so far.
After discussion with the Dean, he freely admitted that he thought it was members of the University community who were poisoning the animals but also feels there is no need to involve the police in view of the fact that no results will come of any police investigation. No university authority in Greece dares to invite the police into university grounds as universities are regarded as areas of 'asylum' and infringing on this asylum will result in severe criticism of the Dean - so hence we remain silent and condone crimes in order to avoid personal criticism.
For those who want to write and object to the poisonings and to insist that the Dean ensure the incident is investigated the contact information is provided below the greek text.
We ask all to post the information and photos on facebook etc. and to forward the information to organizations abroad.

To
the outgoing Dean of the University of Ioannina, Mr Ioannis
Gerothanassis
To the incoming Dean, Mr Triantafyllos
Albanis
I
would like to express my anger and disgust at the repeated
poisoning of animals that has taken place over the last 20 days in
grounds of what is supposed to be an academic institution. The
poisonings occurred on 7 and 29 June, respectively, and in
total 25 animals have been killed, including two privately
owned animals.
The
poisonings occurred at the same time in various areas of the
University, suggesting that they were undertaken by individuals
with an excellent knowledge of the University
surroundings.
I
ask that you take immediate measures to stop this inhumane
treatment of animals by members of your University, that the police
be called, as required by law in such cases and that a full
investigation of the members of the University community is
undertaken.
It
is unacceptable for these things to occur anywhere, let alone in a
well known University whose main aim should be the dissemination of
knowledge rather then than the annihilation of living creatures
using barbaric methods.
Yours
sincerely,
