International
Animal Rights Day - 10 December 2008
Dear Friends
Please unite
with us, and thousands of people around the world, for the
11th annual International
Animal Rights Day (IARD) [www.uncaged.co.uk/iard.htm].
By demonstrating
that
Animal
Rights is a positive
and rational philosophy we can make real strides towards achieving
these fundamental rights. By bringing together under one worldwide
banner all our different campaigns to stop terrible and
institutionalised animal cruelty and suffering, each of these
campaigns can benefit from the massive power of the movement – as
was the case in Chile last year when
IARD protests led directly to a primate lab
closing and 88 monkeys
finding a new home in a UK sanctuary [see:
www.uncaged.co.uk/news/2008/chile.htm].
There
are several ways you can make your mark on this unique and
ever-expanding Day of Action:
1.
hold
a candle-lit vigil at a site where the rights of animals are
abused, or at a prominent location in your town centre (eg. town
hall, or well known monument)
2.
stage a
march / candlelit
procession through your town centre for animals’
rights
3.
conduct a
campaign stall in your high street or town
centre
4.
distribute /
display International Animal Rights Day leaflets in your town
centre, at work, or university etc.
5.
write to your
local media, and online forums etc. in order to publicise the event
and its rationale
6.
advertise
International Animal Rights Day on your website(s) and let your
contacts know about the Day
You may wish to
hold your event on Saturday 13th
December, since
the 10th
is a
Wednesday.
