What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, men would die from a great loneliness of spirit. For whatever happens to the beasts, soon happens to man.
All things are connected.Whatever befalls the earth, befalls the sons of the earth.
If men spit upon the ground, they spit upon themselves.
This we know. The earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth.
This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family.
All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls sons of the earth.
Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web he does to himself.

JUNE 30TH- ALMOST LIKE ANY OTHER DAY FOR WHALES AND DOLPHINS
PILLAGE-PROSTITUTION-MURDER
PILLAGE
June 30th 2010 will be like most other days for whales and dolphins and marine life generally.
The seas will be pillaged for the bounty of fish life by ships equipped with all types of nets, mesh size and length. The mesh size will differ in dimensions to catch the size of fish that is being hunted, yet still be huge in length and deadly enough to catch other sentient life.
Worldwide thousands of tons of fish will be caught on June 30th to be sold in fish markets and eventually end up in some way or other on a consumer's plate. Consumers who are ignorant or totally unconcerned about the process of how it got there and the lives destroyed by it.
In the industrialised fishing process other unwanted fish caught in net will be discarded along with dolphins and whales, sharks, turtles and anything else unlucky enough to be swimming in the vicinity of the 'nets of death'. These unlucky individuals are called 'discards or incidental by-catch',

On June 30th a graceful giant of the sea, leviathan or whale will be swimming peacefully in the North Atlantic, co-existing with Planet Ocean as it and its ancestors have done for millions of years, long before man rose to prominence to cast its violent biped shadow on other life on this planet.
June 30th will be like no other day for one leviathan, for lurking or in deathly pursuit will be an Icelandic or Norwegian whaling ship. Mounted on the bow of the ship the penthrite grenade will be fired and explode into the whale.

Spring brings bloody waters in Norway - the whaling season has started.

yesterday made the first kill of the season: a

What must it be like for the whale to die if it is lucky in a few minutes or if not for much longer? What does it say about our human 'civilisation' that in 2010 we allow another mammal to be killed in such a barbaric way? and for what?
So meat and blubber can be sold to a foreign Japanese market or kept in cold storage because nobody (sometimes not even the Japanese wants to buy it ) because the contaminants in the meat and blubber make it toxic and unsafe to eat, because humans have polluted the seas with effluence from industry and domestic usage.
What does it say that in 2010 we still have a body called the International Whaling Commission that meets annually to discuss quotas, humane killing methods and the like, to pass resolutions that in the end mean nothing to Japan or any other countries that would rather see a dead whale than a live one. What a gravy train and a sham for all the well-paid delegates who move from venue to venue each year most wanting to keep the anachronism of whaling and the discussions alive and well for many, many years to come.
Elsewhere in the North Atlantic June 30th may be like no other day for a pod of pilot whales if they are unlucky enough to be swimming close to the Faroe Isles and are spotted. In that case they will be herded and driven into shallow water by boats and beached and finally killed by a knife cut behind the blow hole and for what? a cruel machismo tradition that dates back to the 16th century but has no place in the 21st

Cetacea Defence
Like the great leviathan, living in relative harmony with Planet ocean, the dolphins,' angels' of the seas, June 30th may be like no other. Somewhere in the world a pod of dolphins will be swimming, perhaps it will be in the waters of Ukraine, Cuba or Japan the traditional hunting grounds for capturing dolphins for sale into the slavery of captivity and now the Solomon Isles have joined this growing select band. As the demand for swimming and therapies with dolphins for international tourists has spiralled , so have the capture operations.
The dolphins will be spotted and chased down by men in boats, they will be encircled with a net and gradually becoming exhausted , they will be forced into shallower waters, into a holding area where the future slaves can be inspected and selected. The men will be looking for youngish specimens, unmarked, so they already fit the ideal caricature of 'flipper' in captivity that has been brain-washed into the punters of dolphin shows. Those that are unwanted and have not died or been injured by the chase may be released unless in Japanese waters where they will be killed and processed into meat.

Footnote; Originally I started to write a press release and it developed into what you now read. I have included the more formal press release and information from last year for those of you who have never heard of WORLD WHALE AND DOLPHIN DAY. Do with it what you want, and think on one thing ; if we can't save these creatures, then what can we save?

JUNE 30th; WORLD WHALE AND DOLPHIN DAY
Q: What is it?
A: It is the annual international day of action, education, protest and celebration against whale and dolphin killers.
Q: Why bother nominating a date?
A; 25 years of campaigning has told Cetacea Defence that a day like this can be a useful ally and tool. Like any other tool it has to be used by campaigners, then it has the potential to be effective amongst the media and public. Two examples Cetacea Defence can site are the actions in New Zealand and Sweden in 1998 and 1994 onJuly 4th World Day For Captive Dolphins. In New Zealand it was the second story covered by national television, events like this can have ripples many years on; the decision, either to operate or close Napier dolphinarium is pending in 2007
Activists D lock themselves to the entrance to Napier dolphinarium.
and on July 4th 1994 the biggest paper in Sweden headlines with Set them Free for the campaign against Kolmarden
Q: Who's doing this protest?
A: Anyone and everyone can participate from structured organisations to individuals, in fact anybody who has a heart and wants to see whales and dolphins live
Q: Where is the protest?
Wherever whales and dolphins are being abused or killed i.e. dolphinariums, fishing boats, dock-sides, fish-markets ( where THE PRODUCE OF THE INCIDENTAL KILLS ARE SOLD) and embassies or wherever you want to celebrate and educate others of the lives of these sentient, intriguing and magnificent creatures i.e. libraries, art galleries, concert halls, schools and colleges or on the streets of town and city centres
Q: What do I do?
A: Simply show up with all of your friends and protest about these crimes against nature.
Cetacea Defence's position is one of non-violent direct action/ protest ( C.D.generally agrees with the Sea Shepherd policy of confronting or sinking whaling ships and disabling fishing ships incidentally killing life in their ruthless pursuit of profit)
Magnificent as these action are, direct action is also as simple as leafleting your fellow humans at the atrocities being done. or stood by the entrance of a dolphinarium educating the visitors and bearing witness to the suffering as the Quakers would say.The only limit is the imagination on how you want to act.
Q: When do I do it?
On June 30th and if your having fun continue at anytime during the period ofJuly 1-7th World Week For Captive Dolphins
