TWO SPANISH DOG
KILLING STATIONS
In Cortegana and El Campillo, near Aracena
We are informed on two dog killing stations at El Campillo and
Cortegana, about 50 and 100 km North of Huelva.
These killing stations are owned by the Province of Huelva and used
to kill lost and unwanted dogs from this province.
If dogs are not collected by their owners within 10 days, they are
euthanised.
As these killing stations are situated in the middle of nowhere of
a vast province, the chances of dogs to be found by their owners
are remote.
Although the employees might try to make the best of the situation,
the circumstances in the killing stations are described as
horrific.
We are saddened by the fact that general animal care efforts by
authorities are restricted to compulsory rabies vaccination and
micro-chipping of pets, whilst vaccination against actual lethal
diseases are optional.
It is tragic and cruel that policies and budgets for abandoned or
lost animals are aimed at their imprisonment and death.
