The French Animals’ Welfare (SPA) and its partners CRAC, FLAC, PETA and ALLIANCE ANTICORRIDA have just let me know that the French Publicity Checking Office (BVP) refused the broadcast of a spot relating to bullfights. The reasons are obvious: the video is likely to harm the economic stakes of the bullfighters industry, especially during the bullfighting high season.
Because of this censure, Renaud (a famous French singer) had a talk himself with the BVP, requesting its leaders to reconsider their decision. The answer was a negative one! The medias then got hold of the business, which already led 80.000 people to view the prohibited spot on the Dailymotion website.
French deputies assured us of their support and the public expressed the wish to join us.
Today, the SPA and its partners do not want to lower their arms in front of this attack to the freedom of speech.
This is why the French artist Renaud, the figure skating Surya BONALY, the model Twiggy, the actor Jean-Claude VAN DAMME and the actress Alexandra PAUL, known to defend the rights of the animals, have just questioned Nicolas Sarkozy, on holiday in the States.
They asked him to interfere on two important matters : the broadcast of the spot and the prohibition of the access to the bullrings to the children under 15 years old. Two measures, that have been required by antibullfighting societies for a long time.
Therefore, we’re launching today a cyberaction to reinforce the existing pressure on French leaders and thus, to lead them to negotiate with us. To reach that point we absolutely need assistance of everyone involved in protecting the animals! This is why we ask all the associations, no matter their geographical origin or the practised language, to set up online the cyberaction you will find below.
We also ask that this campaign is relayed by a maximum of blogs and forums to make it a great success for the animals.
It is indeed essential that the three versions of the spot can be viewed by the greatest number.

The reasons are obvious: the video is likely to harm the economic stakes of the bullfighters industry, especially during the bullfighting high season.
I am deeply scandalized by this censure which is a true attack to the freedom of speech.
How, actually, in the country of the human rights and freedom it is possible to muzzle societies which represent nearly 80% of the French, opposed to the bullfight. How can we accept the partial attitude and of a so called independent organization ?
We consequently ask you to arbitrate this conflict and to interfere so that our opinion is heard and that this spot can be freely broadcasted on televisions so that the debate is not confiscated for the stakes of corporatism.
According to the request of the BVP, the spot has been watered-down three times not to run up against the sensitivity of young people…
It’s now our turn to ask you to protect young people by prohibiting the access to the bullrings to underage young people less than 15 years old. Because it is necessary, as the BVP recommends it, to withdraw young people from the vulgarizing of cruelty and all this violence illustrated by the long torment endured by a sensitive being, for the simple pleasure of a very small minority.
