the 18,19,20 and 21st of September, the FIRST
PORTO'S RODEO.
Below
you will find the promotional poster.
We must prevent
this rodeo. It is enough to have a country where
animal torture is permitted at all levels and now we are
importing another kind of animal torture. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH we must
prevent at all cost these kind of events of spreading to the
country. The proof that this is the intention lies in the
fact that they have already created a website
called Rodeo Portugal wich is still under
construction.

Rodeos are not a
Portuguese tradition and in fact we do have a law that does not
allow these kind of spectacles.
We have two
different letters below, one for the Mayor with CC to the Porto
Lazer and tourism and the second one aimed at the
sponsors.
In
brief the first one asks the Mayor not to allow this event since
it's illegal and the second asking the sponsors to withdraw their
sponsoship to an activity
that is illegal.

Presidente da Câmara Municipal do Porto,
Tive
conhecimento que está previsto um rodeio brasileiro que terá
lugar no Queimódromo da cidade entre os dias 18 e 21 de Setembro e
que conta com o patrocínio dessa edilidade e da empresa
municipal Porto Lazer.
Os
rodeios são actos de crueldade extrema contra animais que
são, nestes espectáculos, vítimas de uma extrema violência
física.
Os
rodeios não têm qualquer espécie de tradição em Portugal não
tendo, portanto, qualquer espécie de enquadramento legal. Pelo
contrário são actividades que colidem com o disposto na Lei n.º
92/95, de 12 de Setembro, nomeadamente no n.º 1 do seu artigo 1.º,
que estipula que "São proibidas todas as violências injustificadas
contra animais, considerando-se como tais os actos consistentes em,
sem necessidade, se infligir a morte, o sofrimento cruel e
prolongado ou graves lesões a um animal”.
Neste
sentido apelamos a V.Exa., que não permita que este espectáculo
cruel tenha lugar na cidade do Porto, tendo em conta que só a
Câmara Municipal têm poderes para o licenciar. Ao autorizar
semelhante espectáculo estará a Câmara a que V.Exa. preside, a
autorizar um evento que é totalmente ilegal face á lei atrás
referida.

com estupefacção que tomei conhecimento que a vossa empresa
patrocina um rodeio brasileiro que terá lugar no Queimódromo da
cidade do Porto entre os dias 18 e 21 de Setembro do corrente
ano.
Os

tal motivo venho requerer a V.Exas., que se desmarquem
deste evento ilegal retirando de imediato o vosso patrocíno ao
referido evento.
