The
conference will highlight the importance of animal ethics by
exploring the following questions:
- Is there empirical evidence of a link between animal abuse and violence to humans or anti-social behaviour?
- How should we interpret the evidence?
- If there is a link, what are the ethical implications?
- What are the implications for social and legal policy?
- Frank Ascione, Professor of Psychology from the University of Utah, one of the world’s leading authorities on the relationship between abusive behaviour towards animals and people.
- Conor Gearty, Professor of Human Rights and director of the Centre for the Study of Human Rights at the London School of Economics.
- Jack Levin, Professor of Sociology and Criminology, North-eastern University, is the author and co-author of more than 20 books on violence.
- Alan C. Brantley Former FBI Supervisory Special Agent (retired) with the FBI’s National Centre for the Analysis of Violent Crime and the Behavioural Analysis/Behavioural Science Units.
