Major Public Protest
Against The Namibian Baby Seal Slaughter on July
1
Days before the start of the Namibian 2007 Baby Seal Slaughter on
July 1, Anastasya Eliseeva organised a major public protest
outside the Namibia High Commission in Johannesburg, South
Africa.
Whilst funeral music and drums played the Public's message was
clear. "Stop Killing Baby Seals" and "Sick Men Club Babies To
Death". One protester overheard, as the High Commissioner hurriedly
whilst making his escape, "That he did not want to deal with
this".

Its time Namibia and the Diamond Industry deal with this. For too
long its been hidden behind the Diamond Restricted Fences (the seal
killing fields), first in South Africa until 1990 and now in
Namibia. The world not only banned clubbing nursing baby seals to
death in 1983 (except South Africa and Namibia), but the remaining
sealing countries themselves banned the practice in 1987, as well.
As far back as 1971, the US stopped importing Cape fur Seal skins
for this very reason - that sealers were clubbing to death nursing
baby seals in nursery/breeding grounds. A clear crime against
nature.
Recently, the four
largest international in-coming tourist countries to Namibia, US,
South Africa, Germany and Netherlands, have all specifically
written recent legislation banning the import of these baby Cape
fur seal products into their countries.
Its time Namibia
adopts the findings of the 11 top scientists recommendations in the
Commission on Sealing in 1990, and announces an end to its
three-man sealing concessionaire industry that has grown undetected
to be the second largest seal slaughter in the world, with 50%
occurring within the diamond restricted area - and the only
place on earth where baby seals still nursing are slaughtered
