Bruce is back for a new round and needs a new family...

Two months ago we wrote an email about Bruce, the very special cat who was found struggling to survive as a stray. After weeks of attempting to catch him, we took him straight to the vet for treatment and he was tested positive for FIV or feline AIDS.

Fortunately, a kind person came forward willing to adopt this special boy, but sadly this his flat mate is allergic to cats, and Bruce is once again homeless.

The vets who have worked with Bruce unanimously agree that he is in very good health, and despite being FIV positive, he stands a very good chance of living a normal and happy life. The only conditions are that he is kept strictly indoors, is the only cat or lives with one who has been vaccinated against FIV, and that his guardian be vigulant with his health and take him to the vet if there are any problems.

Bruce is a absolute pleasure to have around and will make an ideal companion. He is a massive 8 kg and basically looks like a chubby black and white teddy bear. He is very affectionate, and chatty and loves head butts, tummy rubs, and cuddling up on the couch. He has a gorgeous personality and lots of stories and wisdom despite his young age.

If you would be interested in providing Bruce with a foster home or even trialing a permanent home, please contact CatRescue. Bruce cannot stay for much longer in our shelter as he is being kept in a cage so as to not put the other cats at risk. Bruce is very unhappy, and desperately needs a normal home environment with someone to love him. Please emailkd@catrescue.com.au or ring 9011 6053

Bruce's Story...

Just before Christmas CatRescue received a call from Gillian, who had found a stray cat searching for food beneathe a building at her work. The cat had large open wounds on his front legs, and his skin was swollen and raw; his eyes were infected and his ears bitten short every movement looked painful and he was in desperate need of veterinary attention.

What is Feline Immunodeficincy Virus (FIV) ?

Feline Immunodeficincy Virus (FIV), also refered to as Feline AIDS, is an infectious disease that attacks certain cells in the cat’s immune system. As the virus replicates and spreads, it compromises the body’s ability to fight off secondary infections.Click here to read the rest of the article

Just before Christmas Pudding was rescued >from a Sydney pound on the day she was due to be euthanased. So much smaller than the rest of the kittens saved that day, she was was suffering badly from cat flu and we didnt know if she would survive. Wrapping her in a blanket to keep her warm we started the process of 24 hour care in the hope that she would respond in time to save her life.

Fortunately, a kind and dedicated foster carer welcomed Pudding and her sister into her home, and the two girls have since developed into very healthy and happy cats.

CatRescue is committed to providing unwanted or neglected cats and kittens with a clean, safe, comfortable place to stay, attentive carers, healthy meals, veterinary attention and everything else they need until a loving permanent home can be found. To support the many cats and kittens in our shelter and carers network, and to give hope to those needing rescue we have created a monthly sponsorship program.

We estimate that it costs a minimum of $38 per month to provide basic care for each rescued cat, and build the bridge between rescue and rehome. By joining this monthly program you will be directly supporting a rescued animal as they convalesce and regain their strength before finding their forever home. You will also be enabling CatRescue to plan for the future and expand our life-saving work.

How the Program Works:
  • It is a monthly tax deductible donation of $38

  • It is a direct debit program which will occur each month on the same date you joined

  • You will be sponsoring a 'place' in our shelter and carers network which will then always be used to provide care for abandoned or neglected cats and kittens

  • Because it is a regular donation it will enable CatRescue to plan ahead effectively and grow our welfare programs and rescue work

  • Cancelling your membership from the sponsorship program at any time is easy to do
