Out of Proportion as Well
as Disgraceful
Nearly all the citizenry has the right to judge the
inappropriateness and disgrace of reopening the dreadful Puerto
Real dog pound (Cádiz- Spain), when they are still under accusation
for the serious crimes of animal abuse. Named in the case are
the owner, the director and nearly all employees. Even more
outrageous is to reinstate the veterinarian's right to
practice veterinary medicine after he allegedly killed
thousands of poor animals by one of the cruelest forms imaginable,
which was all detailed in the 64 page report completed by the
Seprona (division of the Guardia Civil for the defense of
nature).
It
should not be forgotten by anyone that the veterinarian
contracted by the Puerto Real dog pound, "El Refugio" allegedly
used a strong neuromuscular paralising substance (Mioflex) to kill
the dogs who landed in his hands. One six mililiter
dosis of this paralysing substance causes a slow and agonising
death to animales. The effect of this drug is
progressive paralysis of the extremities, and days later the animal
dies of asphyxiation.
Neither
dogs, nor cats nor any other animal is to blame for the slowness of
the justice system.
Those
of us who fight and defend the rights of those who have less
culpability than anyone are incredulous and sad. We are all
truly saddened, except for those who profit by the killings of the
thousands of animals by the most economic but least
ethical manner possible, such as those undesirables who said and
did everything possible so that the dog pound would reopen.
It was closed in the first trial that is opened in Spain for an
alleged crime of continued animal
abuse.
But
each and every one of them should know that we will make every
civilised country aware of these incredible proceedings.
They have to do with the disproportionate closure of the dog
pound, when the only thing that should be looked at is the harm,
the form and the reason that those poor animals were
killed in that manner. It was also done with public funding
and at no time was there any follow-up as to how it was
spent nor by what means it was carried out.
It
is not our place to talk about the right that some people have
(whether they wear a magistrate gown or not) to force others to
witness how animals are killed in a dog pound. That would
have to come from whomever put the enormous weight on the
their shoulders and on their conscience, as it is only
pleasing to a very few as to how animals are
killed.
What
all of the Municipalities of the area should know is that our smear
campaign will not end, and we will make known to
everyone, in all of the European languages, the list of
Ayuntamientos (city councils) that contract a similar dog
pound. And we will not rest from our battle for
"ZERO TOURISM" for those who have contracted the dog pound which is
so inapporpriately named "El Refugio" (the Refuge), and therefore
we spread the word that those governing municipalities do not care
in the least about their animals.
