AGAINST POISONING OF DOG AND CATS IN PIREO (GREECE)

In Pireo, authorities are killing stray animals. These  animals are helped by animal protection associations, volunteers that take them water, food, and provide vaccinations, spay and neutering. 
In Pireo there is a shelter, it is small and is unable to house many animals. This shelter supports 11 Municipalities, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor in a declaration have encouraged the elimination of stray animals with arsenic and rat poisoning.

After the people and dealers at the center of the city protested the killing of the stray animals, the Municipal authorities decided to close an abandoned public bulding which was used for the animal shelter leaving the animals imprisoned in the building, to face death.
People who are against the animals decided to poison them.
This situation is very dramatic, we ask the authorities not support the poisoning, but to respect the European Laws which protect animals. We also ask the authorities to support animal associations, to collect funds, considering that the animal welfare associations cover all the costs without any assistance.
If it is necessary to close this public building, it is important too supply a space for the animals, so they can go in and out freely so that carers can feed and look after them.

This situation is very dramatic, we ask the authorities not support the poisoning, but to respect the European Laws which protect animals.
